I spoke to singer/songwriter, Maria Mckee, for the March 2020 issue of Record Collector (you can read a sneak preview here). When I first heard that Maria was returning to the recording sphere, for the first time in over ten years, I knew I wanted to talk to her about it. And, just as anticipated, she proved to be one of those interviewees who couldn’t be boring even if they tried. Not only have I connected with her music since my mid-teens, I’ve also been interested in her artistic and personal evolutions, all of which she’s extremely open and articulate about. Oh, and the album? I think the sprawling, ambitious La Vita Nuova stands beside Life Is Sweet, High Dive, and, perhaps, the solo debut on Geffen, as the very best thing she’s ever done.
