When did you first hear Fanny? Were you lucky enough to get into their music as it was coming out in the first half of the 1970s? Did you only come across them last year? Or are you somewhere in the middle, like me? I certainly remember when I first heard about them – it was in the late 90s when Q magazine featured them in a Where Are They Know? (or Whatever Happened To) column. It was enough to send me off in search of their albums and within a couple of years I had not only those, but also the array of solo and (in the case of the Milington sisters) duo albums they made after the group folded. I remember the excitement I felt when Rhino Handmade’s box came out in 2001. 2024 has brought two Fanny archival releases; the Beat Club recordings on Real Gone records and then a collection of the Reprise recordings on Cherry Red. To mark the occasion, I spoke to Alice de Buhr and June Millington for Christmas 2024 Record Collector.
